Off to Belgium

Tomorrow I set off on holiday for two weeks. I have scheduled some link posts for the duration of my holiday so that the mirage of my daily publishing is maintained. So if anything seems weirdly incongruous, or if I seem strangely unresponsive to any comments, that’s why.

However I’ll still try to post short updates from my trip while I’m away.

We will be going to the Belgian Grand Prix. Amazingly, it will be the first time I attend a Formula 1 grand prix, so I’m really excited about it.

We are hiring a campervan, so we’re turning it into an excuse for a road trip. And we have no real idea what we’ll do in Belgium for a few days after the grand prix. So if you have any top tips, let me know in the comments!

Otherwise, see you in a couple of weeks.

  1. I attended by first F1 GP after following the sport for the last 30+ years. I’d been thinking about it for a few years as it’s been on my bucket list but it’s not really the sort of thing one does on their own (my other half has no interest). Fortunately a friend who’s also into F1 decided it would be a good way of celebrating a big birthday.

We looked at Silverstone, Monza, Belgium and Barcelona. Both Silverstone and Monza were going to be too expensive and Belgium would be a road trip like your doing. We decided on Barcelona booked flights and AirBnB and bus transfers and had a fantastic time over a long weekend of F1, Tapas, sightseeing and of course beer(s).

Have a great time Duncan. Enjoy the main event but also the other races over the weekend as these are great too. Watch out for the massive heads at the F1 Village and be careful at the T-Shirt throwing – it can get fairly physical. 😉

I would recommend the F1 App to follow the action whilst at the track.

  2. Thanks David! Great to hear you had a good time at Barcelona. An awesome way to celebrate your birthday! We’re going to hire one of the F1 Vision devices which should help us follow the race. A wee bit pricey, but hopefully worth it!
